The remote cohorts

The ADNI4 phase of the study introduced a new data stream consisting of remote cohorts, which were created as a recruitment and referral cohort with participant pre-screening components as well as digital cognitive assessments. This platform has been used to supplement site recruitment efforts.

Remote participants complete an abbreviated digital test battery that includes some instruments that are administered in-clinic ADNI participants.

In-clinic ADNI participants who in the CN and MCI diagnostic cohorts are invited to join a remote longitudinal monitoring cohort, which entails completing the same assessment battery as fully-remote participants, in addition to their clinical procedures.

Participants who begin their participation in the ADNI study via the remote cohort can be referred to clinical sites for enrollment in the in-clinic study, and some participants are also selected to join the remote blood cohort.

In addition to their participation in the online remote cohort, participants in the remote blood cohort are referred to local phlebotomy centers for biofluid draws. Blood obtained from these participants is sent to the ADNI biofluid biomarker core lab at the University of Pennsylvania, where it is assayed for important AD biomarkers.
